The Perfect Fit
In our post-covid M&A world, finding “the perfect fit” is paramount. While price plays a role in deals, it has much more to do with the merging or acquiring entity’s vision and proposed deal terms. Our team has an unmatched vantage point in this industry when it comes to buying or selling an advisory firm. After reading through tens of thousands of inbound inquiries and supporting over 2,000 M&A transactions, we’ve picked up on a few resounding themes.
Considering Key Stakeholders
Finding the right transaction partner, and executing a potentially complicated and emotional transition, can attract most of the consideration in an M&A deal. It’s important to also look beyond the immediate stakeholders–you, your ownership team, and your transition partners–to a few other groups who will be greatly impacted by the change: your family, your team, and your clients.
Is SELL AND STAY® Right For You?
A Sell and Stay® exit strategy can be a good option for many advisory owners. In mostcases, it provides more customization and value than a straight external sale, and ismore accessible to a wider range of businesses than an internal succession track. Itis a well-suited solution to many unique situations business owners find themselvesin, including operational burnout, illness or disability accommodations, and, mostcommonly, the desire for gradual retirement.
Our Non-Advocacy Approach
FP Transitions has a unique process that is something that we have honed and developed over 25 years in the industry. We take a non-advocacy role. Non-advocacy is a different type of approach to M&A. Most of the M&A industry uses advocates on either side, a seller advocate, a buyer advocate, and these advocates, together with the principals, go hard at it in creating a deal.
Surviving Deal Fatigue
Deal fatigue is a condition during negotiations when one or more of the parties begins to feel frustrated, hopeless, irritated, or even angry about the pace of the transaction. Deal fatigue–at some level–is almost impossible to avoid in a complex transaction, but by knowing the signs and making an effort to minimize frustrations early on, it can be successfully managed.
