After spending most of their life in Austin, Texas, Laura is new to the state of Oregon, with the intention of living in closer proximity to their family. Laura graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, where they studied Rhetoric and Writing and Classical Languages (ancient Greek and Latin). A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Laura completed their honors thesis with the Rhetoric and Writing department and graduated with highest honors!
Before their time at FP, Laura worked at UT Austin’s University Writing Center (UWC) for 5 years, in roles extending from undergraduate writing consultant to administrative associate. Throughout their time at the UWC, Laura conducted over 250 writing appointments with UT students with a diverse range of majors and backgrounds. Laura helped students improve their relationships to writing, and in turn, Laura’s role helped them to become a better and more confident writer themself.
After working in higher education for a very insightful five years, Laura was ready to expand their scope and experience in a new field. Once in Portland, Laura connected with FP and quickly realized how well they gelled with the team, and how well their values aligned with those of the company. As the project coordinator for our Northwestern Mutual consulting team, Laura onboards clients, schedules call series, and collects payment—all essential responsibilities to our Northwestern Mutual engagements. When asked what they enjoyed the most about their new position, Laura told us, “I am excited to work at a company that is growing quickly and has a commitment to excellence and integrity. Also, I like how supportive my team is, and I am excited by the NM team’s commitment to process improvement.”
When they are not providing support to our NM clients and team, Laura can be found marathoning movies with their friends, spending time with their dog, or playing video games. As an avid gamer, Laura has put in over 800 hours into the popular farming simulation game, Stardew Valley. And if you want to be extremely impressed, ask Laura to read Latin, or recite the first seven lines of the Iliad; they can do both!
